" data-title=""Fear is a habit; I am not afraid." #OnThisDay, we celebrate the birth of someone stronger than you: the fighter, opposition politician and chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi. Born the daughter of Burma's independence hero, Aung San, who was assassinated when she was only two years old, #AungSungSuuKyi grew up destined for greater things, exposed to many schools of thoughts and religion, ultimately picking Oxford for her literal school and Theravada Buddhism for her religion. Following her return to Burma in 1990 to oppose the Generals of a dictatorship oppressing her people in the country her father had freed, her newly formed NLD won a landslide electoral victory but was never recognized; Suu Kyi was forced into internal exile, put on house arrest on and off for a total of 15 years, and forced to endure physically and emotionally cruel imprisonment with hopes her graceful momentum would wane. "The only real prison is fear, and the only real freedom is freedom from fear. If you're feeling helpless, help someone." Alas, this Nelson Mandela allusion has seen Suu Kyi dubbed "the perfect hostage," resolutely becoming a prophet-like leader before the entire world's patient eyes and loved more than many figures in the existence of our species. Member of Parliament, Nobel Peace Laureate, Honorary Canadian (4th in history, #whoknew), US Presidential Medal of Freedom & Sakharov Prize Recipient from the Euro Parliament, daughter, mother, fighter, artisan, beauty (like her country), citizen, humane human, and a de facto world leader, Ms. Suu Kyi at 70 (2015) will finally get a chance to officially lead Burma as she has unofficially for most of her life, stating not more than a week ago, "I want to be Burma's president." She will. She has called on her people: "Please use your liberty to promote ours." You will. #thinkdifferent #youshouldknowthis #fearless #fearnot (Photo dubbed 'Aung San Suu Kyi and the flag' (1996) by Steve McCurry in Rangoon, Burma)." data-link="">

" data-title="JFK once said, "we need men who can dream of things that never were." Yesterday was the birthday of such a man, world-renowned Chinese artist, dissident, and legend Ai Wei Wei (@aiww). Born to dissident parents, who were sent to labor camps in the 1950s, Ai's art echoed the subversive political sentiment of his youth. His unparalleled sculptury of altered ready-made products brought him to #NYC where he studied at #Parsons before returning to Beijing to spawn a new generation of Chinese artists and artisans. Most recently famous for designing the #BirdsNest for the Beijing Olympics, Ai has had installations in many major modern art museums around the world, making purposeful commentary with his work. Beyond his art, this Beijing Andy Warhol has become a symbol of hope, fighting political battles, being locked in Chinese prisons, and being dubbed by his fans "Ai Shen," or Ai God, due to his sacrifices for those around him. Ai Shen aims to shock, move, unsettle, please, push, question, change, build, explore, create. "I act brave because I know the danger is really there. #Freedom is a strange thing; once you experience it, it forever remains in your heart and no can take it away." An artist, a hooligan, a HUMAN BEING, Ai Wei Wei is one of my favorite people alive. 祝你生日快乐, #艾未未!!!! #OnThisDay #YouShouldKnowThis #FAKEstudios #NeverSorry" data-link="">
